Who’s Musing?

Who’s Musing?

I'm an engineer from Sydney Australia, scratching my head and feet on American soil - travelling by bicycle.

Where am I now?

Currently: USA

It's two years ago today I rode my bike in to Yaki It's two years ago today I rode my bike in to Yakima, Washington after a few years of living on the road, out of my tent. I'd spent two years riding and hiking North from the bottom of the Americas, with no real aim other than a general amble North and an overarching goal of learning about language, culture, myself - I guess I figured that these three goals were profound enough by themselves. Two years ago today I realised that there were a few other lessons to be learned along the way which I couldn't have predicted.

I arrived in Yakima without much more direction than I had started with - any plans i did have were tossed aside when I was absorbed by the locals and invited to stay and shake off a cold. I left a week later, secretly in love with Yakima, and my warmshowers host, and sure that I wouldn't see the place or the woman again.

I made it one day ride from Yakima and spent a cold night in a baseball dugout in Ellensburg. I still remember being up late at night messaging my host, laying in my sleeping bag until late in the morning, and wishing I hadn't left. I received one call that morning and answered from my sleeping bag. They were asking me to come back to Yakima for Christmas. "Are you in? or are you in?", the call went. "I'm in". And I still am. Now Yakima is my home, and things have been overwhelmingly more spectacular and unpredictable than any length of bike tour could have ever been.

Saturday mornings are for bike hacks, which means Saturday mornings are for bike hacks, which means Sydney has exhausted me and I'm taking this show on the road again shortly.
